How do I make simple syrup?

The answer

Simple syrup is equal parts sugar and hot water by volume, for example one cup of each, stirred until the sugar is fully dissolved. Let it cool, then pour it into a clean bottle or jar and store it in the refrigerator, where it keeps for about two weeks. For a richer syrup, use two parts sugar to one part water. Honey syrup is made the same way with equal parts honey and warm water, and it adds a floral note to certain drinks.
