How can I find a good bar when I am traveling?

The answer

Decide what kind of evening you want, then search a map app for the type of place that suits you, such as a cocktail bar, wine bar or pub. Look at recent photos, read reviews for repeated patterns and confirm the opening hours. Zoom out to see how easy the area is to reach and leave, and ask hotel staff or locals for suggestions. Plan how you will get back before you head out, and keep a second option in mind in case your first choice is full.
